The last of the post-Resurrection appearances of the Risen Jesus recorded in the Gospel. The scene is familiar - some of the disciples, led by Peter, go fishing but in the end get nothing. Then, in the dim light of the early morning, the Stranger appears on the shore and tells them where they should cast their nets. They catch so many fish the net cannot be brought into the boat. At that point, the Beloved Disciple, the one especially close to Jesus, knows "It is the Lord!". Peter immediately covers himself and jumps into the water to go to Jesus. On the one hand, his shame over his nakedness points to his triple denial of his Lord but his eagerness to get to Jesus indicates his deep love for his Master. A full reconciliation will take place at the end of the story, which we do not read today. As they come ashore, there is a Eucharistic meal of bread and fish to share with their Lord. They know it is He and yet he looks different. The Risen Jesus has many, many different faces and it is important for us to recognise him in all of them.

Jesus, help me to recognise you in every person and every experience of this day.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation between persons and people may be understood and that the Church through her testimony, may spread Christ's love, the source of new humanity.
