The Pharisees were interested in knowing when the Day of the Lord would be. Jesus tells the Pharisees that the knowledge of the time of the Day of the Lord is not important. What is important is to recognize that the presence of God's reign is already in their midst.

Today it is still a major concern for some Christians and the concern is misplaced. They superstitiously look for "signs" either from scripture or other materials or from all the happenings around them, for example, war, famine, etc to ascertain whether the second coming of the Lord is close at hand or not. To those who over-concern themselves with this particular event, Jesus tells them and us that we need not waste our time looking for signs but that we become aware of the reign of God which is already in our midst. Unless we give His present reign our full attention and service, we will not be ready for the return of the Son of Man when it occurs. And no one can know when that will happen. Let us therefore, be astute, and work for the greater glory of God here and now.

Lord, make us Your instruments to make Your reign a reality in the hearts of those around us. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the testimony of love offered by the saints may fortify Christians in their devotion to God and their neighbour, imitating Christ who came to serve and not to be served.
