"Justice shall flourish in his time and peace forever." The Response to the psalm is written in the form of a promise. For us, however, it is still a wish, a desire, a prayer. In the Bible, this Psalm carries a title or dedication: "of Solomon," for it celebrates the reign of Solomon, which was marked by justice and peace, wealth and wisdom. From the portrait of King Solomon, the psalmist goes on to speak of a future ideal king. In both Jewish and Christian interpretation, this future king is the Messiah.

King Solomon is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus recorded by Matthew: in a simple remark he reminds us of the crime of David, who had Uriah murdered so that he could marry his wife Bathsheba. Solomon was the Son of David and Bathsheba. In spite of the great injustice and sin which David committed, God raised up his son Solomon as a wise and just king for Israel. How much more will God overcome all the injustices and sins of humanity by raising up a divine King, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour!

Heavenly Father, send us each day the wisdom to enjoy the great gifts of your justice and Your peace so that all our human aspirations for a more humane world may be fulfilled in our age.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
