We all make mistakes and sometimes these mistakes can seem overwhelming. Can we be forgiven or have a second chance? Peter's speech was intended to give hope to those who were afraid that they had missed their chance to receive God's mercy. God's gift is intended for everyone, both near and far, and it is never too late for anyone to be embraced by God.

Since God is so patient, merciful, and forgiving we must be too. Peter exhorts his fellow believers to leave all judgment to God and not to return evil for evil. After all, Jesus suffered unjustly on our behalf and did not lash out at his tormentors. Much of the violence and negativity in the world today is due to people, groups, or nations trying to 'get even.' We can contribute to a better world by being loving and forgiving as the Lord was.

How do we recognize the voice of Jesus in the chaos of voices of our world? Religious rhetoric or 'God-talk' can be meaningless for it costs nothing. The voice of Jesus is sometimes wordless but always challenging. Those who know him will recognize the voice - it is the voice of compassion, sharing, forgiveness, non-violence, justice, and equality. Wherever we find these qualities proclaimed and lived out we find the voice of the Lord.

Lord, may I always hear Your voice.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
