How To Pray With Shalom

Each liturgical season has its own special grace, which we should pray for, and it is usually reflected in the prayers of the Mass in some way. Today, we ask for the grace to grow in our desire for God. Desire for God also means desire for the things of God, as Jesus teaches us in the Our Father. We should strongly desire the things that we pray for so that we are not merely reciting words that we have learned but use these words to express the desires of our heart.

In the first petition of the Our Father, we pray that God's name be holy. God's name is holy in and of itself and so it is the ancient teaching of the Church that we are actually praying that God's holiness be manifested in our Christian lives: "Holy be your name in us."

The Second Commandment teaches us to respect the holiness of God's name. We manifest the holiness of God and of his name by showing in our words and actions the reverence demanded by the commandment. Reverence for God's name will generate in our hearts a respect for God's creation and for all God's children.

Father in Heaven, holy be Your name. May all our thoughts and intentions, words, actions and attitudes be filled with reverence for You and Your holy name.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
