"The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." In today's Gospel, we are called to practice what we preach or, simply put, to be life-giving both in thoughts and acts. In our life, we always aim at doing better, becoming greater and in doing so, we often become self-centered and forget the core of our being human — to be of service to others. Jesus reminds us that it is not bad to strive for the best, but at the same time, we should live out what we uphold as important. The teachers of the Law and Pharisees failed this test because they did not live out the laws they were preaching. As we reach our goals of greatness, do we also become arrogant and look down on others? Jesus warns that we will be humbled for these attitudes. Growing in knowledge and power also requires creating conditions for others to flourish, bringing the light that brightens the way to those entrusted to us and avoiding any behaviour that brings darkness to them. In this way, we will be following what the psalm tells us – to bring the glory of the Lord in our land.

Lord, grant us the grace of humility and compassion

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
