Often people run so far and fast from God that they don't know how to stop and return to Him. They can become enslaved to negative habits, lifestyles, and addictions. It is very tempting to give up. But Joel has words of assurance: Just come back - now! Don't worry - God is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love. All that is required is a sincere heart; God will take care of the rest.

It is easy to do the right thing for the wrong reasons. There are those who do good works or engage in pious practices in hopes of praise from others. It's all about building an image and reputation. Jesus has some good advice: don't let your ego get involved, it ruins everything! Do everything anonymously. Don't let others see you or praise you. You will be seen and honored by the only one who counts - God. The most powerful good deeds and acts of love are those done quietly, behind the scenes, and even secretly. That is the sign of one who truly lives for God rather than for human affirmation and praise. In a world that is given over to self-seeking, this is a wonderful spiritual practice.

Lord, may my deeds be for You alone.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
