The Baptism of the Lord is a powerful moment for Jesus. He is anointed by the Spirit and affirmed as the beloved Son of the Father. It will be the first time Jesus is affirmed by the Father in this way. There will be a second time in the Transfiguration of the Lord (cf Mt 17:5).

This event marks the beginning of His public ministry and sets an example for us to follow. Just as Jesus was baptised, we too are called to be baptised into His death and resurrection, symbolising our commitment to following Him and living out our faith in the world. Consider this truth too! The Father extends this affirmation to us, calling us His beloved sons and daughters.

We can easily get caught up in the busyness of everyday life and lose sight of our true calling as the Beloved of God. Living the life of the Beloved ought to be our total response. Let us never lose sight of our true identity in the Lord.

Jesus fulfills the prophecies of the prophet Isaiah. He ushers justice to the nations and proclaims the glory and power of the Lord. Jesus' mission is one of inclusivity. He welcomes all who fear God and do what is right. He brings salvation to all people, regardless of their background or circumstances. As the Beloved of God, we are also called to bring justice and salvation to people.

Father, as Your Beloved, may this be our life and purpose.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
