In the time of Jesus, leprosy was a hideous disease without means of prevention or cure. But nowadays it does not pose a threat anymore because of modern medicine. Nevertheless, the cure of which we heard in today's Gospel is important to us because the episode tells us something about Jesus.

Jesus did indeed work His cures out of compassion for the people. And yet, He did not choose to end all sickness and disease during His life on this earth. What He did for the people was intended to unfold gradually the person He was. He is the Almighty God who has come amongst us in our humanity. He has entered into the human condition whereby He shows His feelings for our weaknesses and needs. Yes, we do have a God who is not aloof or unconcerned about our situation but a God who loves and cares for us.

We have indeed received many blessings from God, blessings upon which we should frequently ponder. All these blessings should help us to see how good and caring God is and how much we should love Him for Himself.

Lord, open our hearts to those in need especially the poor and outcasts that they may know Your love through our compassion. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all men and women may recognise that they are members of God's one family and end wars, injustice and discrimination among themselves.
