Sometimes a particular problem or obstacle can truly seem like Goliath! Who am I, we might think, to be successful? It's just too much! This can be the case in our personal lives or our struggle for peace and justice in the world. David would not entertain such defeatist thoughts. He knew that God was with him and would grant him the victory. This gave him the courage to do the impossible. There are times when we need such a shot of courage. Alone we can do very little. With God we can do most anything. When we confront the chaos of our own lives or the injustice of political and economic systems, let us do so with our God at our side.

Jesus has broken the rules, and people are outraged. He has healed on a Sabbath. But rules are to help us, not prevent us from achieving health, peace, and happiness. Rules are our servants, not our masters. Jesus puts it all in the proper perspective: for healing and doing good, there are no rules. It must be done at all times and in all places. Love is the one rule that must never be broken. Let us take care that our religion does not become a religion of rules and regulations, but one of compassionate mercy.

Lord, grant me compassion and courage.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all men and women may recognise that they are members of God's one family and end wars, injustice and discrimination among themselves.
