Today's episode of the call of Simon Peter entails the promise of a life-long mission. This took place in the context of Simon Peter's personal experience of Jesus' powerful words and deeds. The miraculous catch of fish symbolizes the promise of success in Simon's role of bringing people to God. The discipleship that is referred to here demands detachment from other ties such as family, possessions and attachments and commitment of one's total self to Jesus and His mission.

What made Simon respond to Jesus' call was the result of his encounter with Jesus that brought about a transformation. This made him aware of his limitations. This is what will happen to us when we are converted. Our intimate relationship with Jesus will reveal to us our inner selves which prompt us to new hope and possibilities for a deeper commitment.

This will lead us to the wisdom not of the world as in the first reading but one that is accompanied by a sense of belonging to Christ and God.

Lord, make me an instrument of Your healing peace.Lord Jesus, we adore You and we love You. We want to follow You closely in love and service. Grant us the graces we need for this to happen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
