The birth of Mary is an unrecorded event in the Bible. In the first reading are these words, when she who is to give birth gives birth. Her birth from the least of the clans of Judah foreshadowed the mystery of salvation. Therefore, many waiting for God's salvation anticipated both the Messiah and Mary's birth. However, both their births were in the obscurity of insignificant Bethlehem.

In the Gospel however, is the genealogy of Jesus with its beginning with the Father of Faith, Abraham, flowing into the royalty of King David. The Gospel indeed proclaims the fulfilment of the words of the prophet Isaiah. Thus, with Mary, dawned a humble new beginning.

In all this, beyond the embodiment of the mystery of incarnation in Mary, is the embodiment of the virtues of humility, obedience, simplicity and faithfulness. Mary's birth brought joy, hope and peace to the world that was forlorn while Jesus was the fulfilment of that.

Therefore, as we celebrate the Nativity of the Mother of God we are called to live in holiness; to be faithful to God in humility, obedience, simplicity and to be yielding to the will of God.

Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
