The children of the promise, the Jews, rejected what Paul had to preach. They were so confident that they had the truth that they became deaf to his preaching. So secure were they with their own importance that they were unable to hear the Good News We pray that we may never become so confident of our own importance that we refuse to listen to the workings of the Holy Spirit. The pagans were very happy to hear the message preached by Paul. Those outside the Promise became the very ones to benefit from it. God causes His Spirit to blow wherever He wills. We must be always open to the Spirit and be happy to receive it from whatever quarter it may blow. The life of Jesus can only be understood in this context of being open to the Spirit.

We as members of Christ's Body are called to share in this wonderful relationship with God in the Spirit by an attitude of openness. Thus we too with Jesus can address the Father as 'Abba'. How true indeed are the words of Pope St Leo the Great 'O Christian, be aware of your nobility - it is God's own nature that you share'. That is why Jesus speaks again about the unity in the relationship of the Father and Himself. The whole of Jesus' life is a response of love to His Father.

Lord, help me to value openness to the Spirit at all times.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians, even in the difficult and complex situations of present day society, may not tire of proclaiming with their lives that Christ's resurrection is the source of hope and of peace.
