"Live on in me as I do in you, for apart from me you can do nothing". Religion, according to Jesus, should be such a simple matter. Remaining in close union with Him, we become His disciples, the dwelling place of the Word. This makes our lives bear fruit for the glory of God.

Yet we seem to be unable to live with the simple truth, adding demands where Jesus spoke of the truth setting us free. Some people are never free enough to let the past go, they cling on to it for their security in life. There was much good in the past, but Jesus spoke in new images. Israel was God's vineyard, but Jesus wanted to deepen our sense of intimate belonging, showing a deeper truth which the image of the vineyard is made to carry. He was daring enough to say that we have to live by His very own life, drawing sustenance from Him and His word, just as branches draw life and energy, strength and fruitfulness from the parent vine.

Jesus, let me live in close union with You, so that my life may become enriched by Your love for me and for others. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians, even in the difficult and complex situations of present day society, may not tire of proclaiming with their lives that Christ's resurrection is the source of hope and of peace.
