Peter, James and John were led by Jesus to a high mountain. And what happened? They saw Jesus' face "shone like the sun" and His clothes "became as white as light" (v 2).

It was a special revelation of Jesus' divinity - His Transfiguration in radiant glory. However, before they could absorb this moment in all its fullness, there appeared before them, Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus! (For the Jews, Moses and Elijah were the two greatest prophets.) And then, to top it all, "a bright cloud covered them", and a voice said, "This is My Son; the Beloved; He enjoys My favour. Listen to Him"(v 5).

At this, the disciples "fell on their faces, overcome with fear" (v 6). The disciples unexpectedly saw, heard, and encountered divine moments, beyond their imagination and understanding. It was an overwhelming experience on the high mountain, so much so, that Jesus had to say to them, "do not be afraid" (v 7).

However, Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone about "the vision" until He has risen from the dead (v 9). Why?

Probably because a Messiah Who had to be crucified was not within the understanding of the general public. That is why in the Second Reading for today, Peter is seen to be sharing passionately about the Transfiguration of Jesus and how the disciples had witnessed it personally (2 Pet 1:16-18).

Lord, may we always listen to You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
