When Jesus reached the territory of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs came towards Him out of the tombs like fierce creatures. This was a very challenging situation for Jesus at that time, and certainly now for us as we reflect upon it!

But let's pause and take a look at the many encounters with Jesus that are recorded in the Gospels. Jesus was unperturbed in this encounter with the demoniac just as He was calm when confronted with the death of His friend Lazarus. And, He raised Lazarus from the dead (Jn 11:1-45). And in similar ways, Jesus used His power to free people from what affected them: He raised the widow's son on His way to Nain, restoring the son's life and livelihood for the widow (Lk 7:11-14); He healed the man born blind (Jn 9:1-12). Jesus exercised His power in His many encounters with the people. After all, Jesus "came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (Jn 10:10).

Let's look at our own encounters with Jesus. Take stock of them and notice how such encounters shape and transform our faith in Him. They need not be dramatic encounters, because sometimes, the deepest ones are those that's as gentle as a breeze on a hot day - and you notice the wonder of God's creation. "Finding God in all things" is a quick guide - to be always open to noticing God's presence in and around us, especially in quiet, unperturbed ways.

Jesus, may I notice You in my daily encounters.
