It is indeed a blessed assurance from the Lord that the word that goes forth from His mouth does not return to Him empty. To savour and rejoice in these words of the Lord presupposes that one has a loving and trusting relationship with God - a relationship that's built over time and with wisdom gained from God. Such a trust enables one to be like a bird who has no fear of landing on any branch on a tree - be it strong or brittle because the bird knows it has wings. There are times when one's prayer will echo the poem of John Henry Newman: "Lead kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom … I do not ask to see the distant scene - one step is enough for me." Today I ask myself: Is God the first Resource or the last Resort in my life? How often does God have to compete with other securities I possess?
The parable of the Sower and the seeds helps in a way to be conscious of the posture of trust and openness to the Lord. It helps one to be receptive like moist clay ready for God's Will to be imprinted so that it will shape one's life of authentic discipleship. The wisdom gained to see things in God's perspective rather than one's own narrow perspective will allow the Holy Spirit to empower us into abundant fruitfulness and efficacy for His Kingdom. Today, is my heart open, warm and trusting, or is my heart stubborn, rebellious and drifting?
In You, my God, I place all my trust.
